Master Red Dot Shooting

Pistol Optics Fundamentals & Performance

From first dot to confident, combat-ready performance.

Pistol-mounted red dots are powerful tools—but only when they’re understood and used correctly. These two courses are built as a deliberate progression: Red Dot 101 establishes rock-solid fundamentals, while Red Dot 201 takes those fundamentals and pressure-tests them for real-world performance. Together, they close the gap between simply having a dot and truly running one.

Red Dot 101 – Fundamentals

Red Dot 101 is where everything starts. This course is designed for shooters new to pistol optics and for experienced shooters who want to clean up inefficiencies that irons allowed them to hide.

The focus is on understanding how and why red dots work—and how to make them work for you, not against you.

You’ll build a clear understanding of pistol optics themselves, including window size, MOA selection, brightness management, and durability considerations. We cover mounting fundamentals and common failure points so your optic stays secure and reliable. From there, we address proper zeroing—what it should look like, why shortcuts fail, and how zero impacts everything that follows.

A major emphasis is placed on consistent dot acquisition. You’ll learn how to present the pistol so the dot appears naturally, without hunting or fishing for it. Grip, stance, and recoil management are addressed specifically for optic-equipped pistols, along with target focus versus dot awareness and when each matters.

This class is hands-on and diagnostic. By the end, shooters leave with a properly zeroed optic, a repeatable presentation, and the confidence to find and manage the dot consistently.

Ammo requirement: 300 rounds

Red Dot 201 – Advanced Performance

Red Dot 201 is where fundamentals are turned into performance. This is a full-day course built for shooters who want to run their optic efficiently under speed, distance, movement, and stress.

Everything from Red Dot 101 is assumed and reinforced—but now it’s applied dynamically.

The course dives into eliminating dot hunting at speed, refining the draw stroke for optic pistols, and learning to track the dot through recoil instead of chasing it. Shooters learn to read dot movement to diagnose misses in real time, shoot effectively with both eyes open, and manage optic-specific issues and immediate actions.

As the day progresses, the emphasis shifts to application: balancing speed versus precision at varying distances, maintaining dot discipline while moving, transitioning cleanly between targets, and shooting from unconventional or compromised positions. Occluded-optic concepts are introduced to ensure shooters understand backup aiming methods and visual problem-solving if the dot becomes obstructed.

The goal of Red Dot 201 is not just technical skill—it’s confidence and efficiency when the pace increases and conditions degrade.

Ammo requirement: 500 rounds

Why Red Dot Pistols Matter

Pistol-mounted optics offer faster target acquisition, improved accuracy at distance, and better performance in low-light or high-stress environments—but only if they’re used correctly. Poor fundamentals with a red dot can actually slow shooters down and reduce accuracy. These courses are designed to prevent that and build performance that holds up when it matters.

Who These Courses Are For

  • New red dot pistol owners
  • Shooters transitioning from iron sights
  • Concealed carriers and duty-minded shooters
  • Competitive shooters seeking cleaner dot tracking
  • Anyone frustrated with “losing the dot”

Every shooter leaves with actionable improvements, regardless of experience level.

Training Style

Training is hands-on, coaching-driven, and performance-focused. Expect individual feedback, clear diagnostics, and explanations that make sense. You’ll learn not just what to do, but why it works—so the skills transfer beyond the range and continue to improve with practice.
